MIRACLES
JOHN 6:1-13

I. THE FEEDING OF THE 5,000.

A. Why did the crowds follow Him? Verse 2.

B. Jesus is not offended by this. He understands the nature of man. He was not refusing to perform a miracle.

C. Jesus is not intimidated by the impossible.

1. Verse 5.

2. The disciples were intimidated.
Verses 5, 7, 8

D. Jesus knew exactly what He was going to do. Verse 6.
His plans carried out. Verses 10-13.

II. LESSONS LEARNED FROM THIS MIRACLE.

A. Never underestimate the ability of Christ to work in any situation.

Mark 9:14-27.

B. Never minimize the importance of your gift.

1. This boy was willing to share what He had, but it was small.

Verse 9. The word small is emphasized. Five small barley loaves. Two small fish.

2. Don’t we feel like that when we think about what we have to offer.

Our witness, our financial gifts, our talents.

3. Never underestimate what the Lord can do with your gift.

4. The completeness of Christ’ work in us and through us.

Verse 11.
Philippians 1:6

C. Jesus is against waste. Verse 12. Let nothing be wasted.

1. We can be so wasteful.

2. People waste:
Money
Time
Relationships
Talents
Opportunities to witness, worship, serve.

Jesus said let nothing be wasted. If He is that concerned with the bread and fish, how much more concerned with our lives.

Ephesians 5:15-20
Philippians 1:22

D. The overlooked miracle. Verse 13.

After all these thousands were fed, they picked up the leftovers and there are exactly 12 full baskets.

Matthew 6:33.

Jesus did this one time for all these thousands. For those who faithfully follow, He does it for a lifetime.

Philippians 1:12-21
