THE WITNESSES
JOHN 5:31-47
I. VERSE 31
A. Is Jesus saying that His witness is not trustworthy?
B. The meaning of this statement - "If I witness of myself with no corraborating witnesses, then my witness is not acceptable."
C. In Jewish, Greek and Roman law one's witness by itself is not admissible evidence.
1. Deut. 19:15 says that one witness alone is insufficient evidence of wrong doing.
2. At the testimony of 2 or 3 witnesses shall the matter be established.
3. Jesus knowing rabbinical demands, He gives witnesses, those who testify to His reality.

III. THE PROBLEM WITH THE JEWS
A.
They diligently study the Scripture. Verse 39
B.
The Scripture does not dwell in you. Verse 38

They read it with preconceived ideas.
2.
They used the Scripture to make it fit their theology.
3.
The Jews felt they had eternal life by studying the Scripture.
C.
They refused to come to Christ whom the Scriptures testified about. John 5:40.
IV. MOSES WILL ACCUSE THEM - John 5:45
A. Moses was their deliverer in the Exodus.
B. Moses testified of the One to come.
C. He will testify against all rebellious Jews. Moses has had quite a place in history.
